Ride Or Die Makeup Tag
Who doesn't want to take the opportunity to share their absolute favorite items in every category?! FUN!! Of course, I had to add a few categories to the original list that Jaclyn Hill mentioned in her latest YouTube video. (I've put an asterisk next to the categories I've added.) So here's my list, with a quick note as to why they're my... Desert Island (I prefer this term as it actually makes sense to my old ass) picks.
Face Primer // Skindinavia - The Makeup Primer Spray
Once I discovered Primer could come in spray form, I was hooked. Since my skin leans towards dry and can be sensitive, I usually put a lot of moisturizers and oils on my face. To add another layer of primer usually complicates matters. But this Primer Spray is light, easy, works so well and I've used it every single time I've put on a full face of makeup since I purchased it.
Foundation // Koh Gen Do - Maifanshi Aqua Foundation in 123
I had a very hard time picking between this foundation and the Surratt Beauty Surreal Foundation Wand. But this foundation is lighter and is more of an everyday foundation that I reach for more often. It's weightless, blurs out imperfections, stays put, doesn't break up, has no scent and comes in a bottle with a pump. Need I say more?
Concealer // By Terry - Terrybly Densiliss Concealer in Vanilla Beige
I just started using this concealer and it's simply perfect. I've tried so many others and they've all disappointed me. This concealer is so smooth, covers well, and is a serum that I feel comfortable wearing alone on my face without a foundation or powder.
Setting Powder // Giorgio Armani - Luminous Silk Compact in 4.5
Even though this powder can be used as a foundation, it feels weightless on the skin. With one swipe it covers well and sets any liquid products without feeling heavy or looking cakey.
Under Eye Setting Powder // Charlotte Tilbury - Airbrush Flawless Finish Skin Perfecting Micro-Powder in 1 Fair
This powder has worked perfectly under my eyes. I tried baking with loose powders and it always left my under eye area looking so dry and desiccated. But this powder is so super light and does the job with just a quick dusting of a brush.
Bronzer // Giorgio Armani - Sun Fabric Sheer Bronzer in 100
I started using Armani bronzers before this version came out. So when they changed the formula to this one, I was heartbroken. But once I gave it a chance, I began to love it just as much. It is the perfect tone for me - not too orangey - and the texture is very smooth. The finish isn't quite matte. It's more of a satin which makes my skin glow. And when people ask you if you've gone away, you know the bronzer is natural looking.
Blush // Nars in Madly
I think this blush is my favorite because it doubles perfectly as an eyeshadow too. It's really the perfect color. Not too pink or nude or peach. There's only a hint of shimmer, so it's not completely matte. And it's buildable, so I can put on a sheer wash of color, or pile it on if I want something more dramatic. And because it's such a versatile color, it blends so well with any bronzer or contour I may have on.
Highlight // Laura Mercier - Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight 01
This was definitely the hardest category to choose. I have so many highlighters and use them all for different reasons like when I'm in a certain mood. But I chose this one because this is the safest, most everyday Highlighter. Sometimes, I even put this one on first before another highlighter as a basel. It gives my skin a pearly glow and tricks the eye instead of blinding it.
*Face Palette // Tom Ford - The Afternooner
I couldn't not mention a Face Palette. I'm really such a sucker for Face Palettes. And this one is great. I've noticed that when I've been packing in a rush or really have to pack lightly, I grab this. And it's always worked. With whatever I have on, or if I've gotten a tan, the colors in this palette always go well.
Eyelashes // Ardell Wispies
Honestly, I've worn eyelashes out twice and it's been the Wispies. I like them, but I'm a real amateur when it comes to false lashes.
Mascara // Benefit Roller Lash
I've been trying more and more mascaras and so far, the Roller Lash seems to work best for my sparse, straight lashes. They don't seem to weigh them down and it hasn't flaked or smudged. But like eyelashes, I'm a bit of an amateur when it comes to mascara, so I don't have much to reference.
*Eyeliner // Ardency Inn - Smooth Ride Supercharged Eyeliner in Coffee
Does. Not. Smudge. I don't know what else to say. When it comes to eyeliner, that's really my main concern. And, it goes on smoothly without any tugging which is important too.
*Liquid Eyeliner // Tom Ford - Eye Defining Pen in Deeper
This double-sided liquid eyeliner is so so good. Not only does it make lining your eyes easy, but I've never had it smudge or flake off. One side is a thicker tip, and the other is a very fine tip. So so good!
Eyeshadow Palette // Kevyn Aucoin - The Legacy Palette
This was such a hard choice too!! I love the Viseart Neutral Matte palette, and I'm slowly becoming obsessed with the new Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con No. 20 in About Last Night. But I had to go with this one. I just mentioned this in my July Favorites, but this palette is everything. High quality, with beautiful basic colors in both cool and warm tones. Just love it.
*Single Eyeshadow // Tom Ford - Cream and Powder Eye Color in Naked Bronze
I'm a big big fan of single eyeshadows and just had to mention one! But I'm not sure if this even counts as a single eyeshadow because it's a duo. Usually I just use the cream shadow and swipe it across my lid, and done. But for some extra oomph, I'll tap some of the glittery powder on. It's the perfect day to night combo.
*Brow Product // Glossier Boy Brow in Brown
Another product that's just perfect. I have pretty full brows that don't need much coloring in, so this pomade adds just a little bit of definition and helps my brows stay in place without feeling sticky or crunchy.
Lipstick // Tom Ford - Ultra Rich Lip Color in Revolve Around Me
This is the perfect nude and perfect texture for me. It's creamy, but not too creamy and the color is the perfect my-lips-but-better tone. Love love love this.
Liquid Lipstick // Jouer - Lip Crème in Noisette
I've come to realize that I'm not the biggest fan of liquid lipsticks. I appreciate their longevity and staying power so I'll put them on if that's what I need. Jouer's Lip Crèmes are the most comfortable to me. And I love this noisette color - it's very cool-toned and that seems about right for a liquid lipstick. It fades evenly over the day, even after lots of eating and drinking, and doesn't make my lips too dry.
Lipgloss // Marc Jacobs - Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer in Pretty Thing
This lipgloss has the perfect texture and scent. I'm not a fan of the sweet, cakey, dessert scent that most lip products have these days. This has a light, refreshing, minty scent but isn't a plumper. The texture isn't tacky and the pigmentation is just right for a gloss. It was hard to pick one color because I really love all the colors I have... so far.
*Lip Liner // Charlotte Tilbury - Lip Cheat in Iconic Nude
I think I pretty much wear this lip liner with every lipstick I have. It's just the one I reach for. I love the texture and color.
Setting Spray // Skindinavia - The Makeup Finishing Spray in Oil Control
I love this spray! My makeup doesn't move, and while I don't have oily skin, it's perfect for when I work up a sweat, running around the city. It gives such a lovely finish to my skin and seriously sets my makeup.
Perfume // Jo Malone - Grapefruit
I've been wearing this perfume for about 15 years. Occasionally, I'll layer another Jo Malone fragrance on top, but I put on Grapefruit almost every day. It smells clean and fresh and isn't too sweet. It makes me so happy.
