Tom Ford // Soleil Color Collection
Tom Ford can really do no wrong. I still daydream of Amber Valetta walking down the runway in Ford's FW95 collection for Gucci in that chartreuse silk charmeuse blouse, matching mohair coat, velvet hip-slung pants with the giant horsebit belt... smokey eye, bedroom hair... a complete and total vision of sexy. I just wanted to lay down at Ford's feet and have him tell me what to do.
His Beauty Line is no different. "Tom, tell me what to put on my face." I feel like a bit of a sucker purchasing makeup that is so expensive, but pretty much everything in this collection blew up my skirt.
Bronzing Primer // 1 Fl Oz
I put this primer onto my moisturized skin and was a little terrified about how bronzed it looked right out of the bottle. Speaking of the bottle, it's just like their Traceless Foundation. I love it. You twist the top cap until the pump pop ups, and then you press down. The product in the tube is automatically moved upwards so no product is left behind. The texture is moussey and spread onto the skin very easily. There is no slippery feel to it. I used my fingers and applied it evenly all over.
It definitely made me look bronzed, as its name would suggest, but not in a scary way. But because I have no tan whatsoever, there is quite the difference between my face and neck. It would be perfect when I'm self-tanned. It dried down and didn't feel tacky or powdery at all. It has a wonderfully light moisturizing feel to it.
I threw on the lightest foundation I have - Glossier Skin Tint in Medium. I wanted to see how much of the bronzey glow showed through and it definitely did. It's like using the Becca Backlight Priming Filter - the glow shines right on through! I'm thinking when I'm tanner in the Summer, and feeling lazy, this Bronzing Primer could be a great solo step, for one of those easy makeup days.
Cream and Powder Eye Color // Naked Bronze (01) and Golden Peach (03)
I picked up these two colors at Bergdorf, and I believe these are repromotes from last year's Summer collection. I love the packaging on these. The 2-in-1 little pot towers are so handy. And, there's a little mirror inside the flip top lid to the powder. Unscrew the top powder portion, and you'll access the bottom pot of cream color. I used my ring finger to apply the cream, and then used my middle finger to tap the powder on top. For as glittery as the shadow looks in the pan, it comes off looking more wet and glistening. And for a cream shadow + glittery shadow, they stayed on my lid with no fallout and no fading.
Cream Cheek Color // Pink Sand (01) and Pieno Sole (02)
I am a big fan of cream products. These cream cheek colors are so pretty, especially the Pink Sand, which is a repromote from last year. It gives off a flushed pink with a bit of gold and will look great after a day in the sun. The Pieno Sole may be a bit too warm for me to wear as a blush, but I can see dabbing it onto my lips for a little sumthin' sumthin' or placing it down before bronzer. These creams are very creamy and they never really dried down completely, which can really completely a summertime glow.
Soleil Contouring Compact // The Afternooner
Stop the presses. If you need anything from this collection, this is the one. I figured I wouldn't love all of the colors in here, but wanted to give it a try anyway. Remember when you'd buy an album for one song and end up loving the whole damn thing? Well, that was the case here. Obviously, and unfortunately this face palette isn't going to suit everyone's skin tones, but man oh man I feel lucky that it works on me. The highlighter is a beautiful champagney peachy gold. Not glittery at all - just leaves a beautiful sheen. The blush is a perfect peachy pink (I obvs need new color words) and the bronze falls right outside of being too orangey. Even though this compact is the size of an old floppy disk, I'm going to carry it around with me everywhere and love pulling out this beautiful white and gold compact.
Large Bronzing Powder // Gold Dust (01)
Definitely not new with this collection, I had to try out this bronzer. I'm slightly obsessed with bronzers and needed this in my collection. I was a little worried it would be similar to the one in the Contouring Compact, but it's really quite different - much lighter to my surprise. It definitely lives up to its name with more gold flecks. I lightly dusted this all over my face for an overall warmer look and the gold flecks weren't distracting. Really nice summer evening glow!
Moisturecore Lip Color // Otranto (03) and Cala Di Volpe (04)
I'm completely paranoid of lip products drying out my lips, so I was really looking forward to trying these. Aside from them reminding me of my childhood (I can't remember which brand had that moisture core back in the 80's... Maybelline... Revlon?), I really like the look of these too. They're super fun with that coral center! They have no detectable scent and are just a teensy more pigmented than what I would call a sheer lipstick. They definitely felt moisturizing, and like most moisturizing lipsticks they didn't stay put after eating - no surprise. However, I was surprised by the color. I assumed the colors would be much softer, but they were really well pigmented.
Ultra-Rich Lip Color // Revolve Around Me (06)
For me, this is right up there with The Afternooner. I'm going to purchase a backup of this color and get a few others. This formula, which I believe is new, is SO GOOD. It is so comfortable on the lips, great pigmentation and didn't gunk up or anything. I have a few of the other Tom Ford lipsticks and while they're perfectly fine and a bit more pigmented, they're not quite as comfortable. And the Revolve Around Me color is the color I've been searching for! Not too cool, not too warm. Just right, the perfect nude.
Sephora just got in this collection online, and due to appear in stores on April 15th. WOOHOO!!!! And I'm also desperately waiting for the Cheek Blush Duo to appear in stores. I checked out Bergdorf's, but they haven't gotten it in yet. I'll def be stalking Sephora for that. But for the time-being Ebates is offering a higher percentage back at Neiman's - 7% (vs. 4% at Sephora.)
